The Friends are a group of people who help our library by volunteering, fundraising, and trying to make a difference. We use the money that we raise to purchase extra things for the library that are not included in the library's budget.
We hold 3 books sale fundraising events per year: Spring Book Sale, Fall Book Sale, and Holiday Book Sale. See our Calendar for dates/times.
Memorial Books - We also accept donations to add new books to the library’s collection in honor or in memory of someone who loves or loved books and reading. Simply fill out the form and mail or deliver it to the library along with your check made out to the Friends of the Independence Township Library. Honor and Memorial books include a plate recognizing the honoree and the donor. An acknowledgement letter is sent to the individual you specify, and you will receive a letter recognizing your tax deductible donation. If you have questions, please call the library at 248-625-2212. Memorial book donations are currently matched by the Friends through the Stock the Stacks campaign.
Teen Art Show - The Friends also support the library's art show for teens. Held in May this art show is open for artists in 6th to 12 grade.
We try to purchase "extras" for our library that aren't in the budget. The library staff prepares a wish list twice a year for the Friends to consider purchasing for the Library. The Friends have recently provided:
Anyone that wants to join and support our library! We're really just a fun group that's always looking for new volunteers. We currently have over 250 members. Our Board meets monthly on the second Wednesday.
The benefits of Friends members include quarterly newsletters, admission to members-only previews before book sales, and having a say in how money is spent to support the library. We also look for Friends to volunteer at book sales and Friends sponsored events at the library. Click here to print off a membership form and simply mail it in or bring it to the library.
